Christofle Gilt Bronze Candlestick Covers – Late 19th Century, France

Empire Revival Elegance with Provenance Flair

A rare and refined pair of late 19th-century gilt bronze candlestick covers by Christofle, one of France’s most prestigious names in decorative metalwork. Founded in 1830 and famed for its silverware and neoclassical designs, Christofle was also known for its extraordinary bronze and ormolu pieces, particularly during the Second Empire and Belle Époque periods.

These covers showcase finely cast swan-handled urns, fluted and pierced columns, and classical acanthus flourishes around the base—hallmarks of the Napoleon III taste for ornamental grandeur. Their rounded bases are richly decorated with a foliate frieze and laurel borders, evocative of Empire and Louis XVI stylistic influences.

Each piece is marked with Christofle’s square hallmark and model number 5383, linking them to high-end production—likely intended for a Parisian hôtel particulier, an elite rail car like the Orient Express, or a grand European salon.

Condition: Excellent antique condition with warm patina; minor age wear consistent with use

An exceptional decorative find for collectors of fine French bronzes, Empire revival design, or Christofle rarities.
